Practicals! done for week 4&5 are as follows.

    -Activity 1-

1)Based on your research topic choose relevant keywords to search for relevant topics.
    i.
    http://www.getforme.com/previous2005/
    ii.http://www.arup.com/singapore/project.cfm?pageid=9434
    iii. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore

    2)Keywords used in my research.

    Singapore,tourism,integrated resort,impact.

    3)Variations to my keywords.

    i.Integrated Resort, Variation:IR,casino,resort

    ii.Impact, Variation:Benefits,advantages,disadvantages

    iii.Tourism, Variation Economy,tourist attraction

4)Search phrases used in my research.

    i. Impact of IR on Singapore’s economy
ii. Impact of setting up of casino and resort in Singapore
iii. Benefits/Advantages/Disadvantages of IR in Singapore
iv. Impact of IR on Singapore’s Economy.
    v. Singapore’s Integrated Resort as a tourist attraction.

My research process table are as follows.

    Keywords used: Singapore,integrated resort,tourism,impact

    Search Engine: Google
    URL:
    http://www.getforme.com/previous2005/
Number of hits: 593000 hits found.

    Meta search engine: IX quick
    URL:
    http://www.arup.com/singapore/project.cfm?pageid=9434
Number of hits: 1,999,235 hits found

    Subject directory: Yahoo! Directory
    URL:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore
Number of hits: 12 hits found

    Search Evaluation

Comparing the search results all the above search facilities are common as they make use of the keywords to narrow down its search.I have also realised that meta search engine enables me to find more information as it has recorded more hits as of compared to subject directory.

I found out that subject directory is relatively weaker in providing me information for my research ,as the resources found there are not very relevant and accurate as of compared to resources found form search & meta search engines.

In the overall perspective i feel that search engines and meta search engines would proved to be more useful to me in my research due to the accuracy and relevant sources that it provides me.

I was thinking before i start to intorduce other people's mindset of how the IR would affect tourism in Singapore. I figured out it would be better if i first of all provide my stand of view.

In my opinion, i would give the IR a GOGO!! instead of a NONO.

Firstly i feel that the IR would have a positive impact of the Singapore tourism.
To start of with, it gives foreigners another reason to visit Singapore, especially those who have visited Singapore before. It is because there is something new for them to expect, instead of just visiting places like Night Safari,Bird Park which they have already lost interest in.
But now with the IR, its like wow, its going to be big with lots fo cool stuff, expect superb scenery, excellent service, high class hotels & a whole lot of other entertainments that's going to provide them with never-ending fun.

Secondly, the jobs opportunities that are to be created is another addition.Singapore is trying to promote excellent service to all, this can be seen in the campaign known as GEMS(Going The Extra Mile for Service). Thus with the development of a IR, it would mean that there would be hotels and restaurants which would greatly require peopl to serve in the service industry. This would also ber a excellent chance for Singapore to potray itself as a country with workers which provide excellent service. This would in turn attract more people to visit Singapore to "see if they really get what they expect".

The above are just my personal views on the setting up of the IR.

I'm going to start to post responses from the public on how they think the IR would affect Singapore's tourism. In the meantime psot any comments u have about the IR if u have any ideas to share.
